Description

I grew up rescuing strays. All of you know that Zero herself was a stray where I live, along with all three cats I've had in my life- my friends' dog Batman, and the numerous dogs we've found growing up. But this one takes the cake.

I woke up this morning to a phone call from my fiance. He lives in a rural area as well.
He said:

"I found a box of puppies in the field. It was covered with a blanket. I don't know what to do."

I rushed over there and cooed over all of them, of course. My best guess is they are boxer mix puppies. My future mother-in-law has a friend who owns a little shop the next town over, and she had a co-worker that was interested in taking one, and a woman shopping in the store wanted to see them. The woman cried when we took the box of them out of the car. She grabbed the only male and never let him go. She bought him dog food and took him to his new home- with two other young dogs to be his new brothers. The other three females were adopted within a few hours. If we could not find them homes, I had fosters on stand-by from the rescue group I volunteer with.

Although these puppies had a happy ending, there is a harsh reality to this. It was freezing this morning- the ground covered in snow. We are lucky the only problem these puppies had were fleas. There are many more dogs that are not this fortunate, unlike these guys, Zero, and others.

Please- spay and neuter your pets. This was obviously a unwanted litter. And if an accident does occur, do the right thing and find them responsible new homes. It only took us HOURS with just a little bit of effort. I don't see why someone could just dump animals this way- leaving them to die or just hoping that somebody else will take them in and then it can "be their problem."

Disgusting. There is a special place for people like this, for sure.
